Delivering Reliable Solar Power for Thelma Laboratory, Delta State

In 2024, The Den Enterprise partnered with Thelma Laboratory, located at Osiete Street, Ughelli South, Delta State, to provide a stable and cost-effective solar energy solution. The goal was clear: install a system capable of delivering 24/7 uninterrupted power to support critical laboratory operations while reducing reliance on unstable grid supply and expensive generators.
With a project budget of ₦10.5 million, we successfully designed, installed, and commissioned a 15KVA solar energy system tailored to their needs.

The Challenge Of Project

Unreliable Power Supply:
Thelma Laboratory heavily depended on grid electricity, which was inconsistent and often unavailable for extended periods. Frequent outages disrupted operations and equipment functionality, leading to costly downtimes.

High Operational Costs:
Continuous use of diesel generators increased their operational expenses significantly, putting a strain on the laboratory’s budget and sustainability goals.

Need for Critical Power Stability:
As a medical testing facility, Thelma Laboratory required constant power to ensure the safe storage of samples, proper operation of diagnostic equipment, and uninterrupted services to their clients.

Our Approach

Site Assessment and Energy Audit
We conducted a detailed site inspection and energy needs assessment to understand the laboratory’s daily and peak power consumption patterns.
Special focus was placed on ensuring that sensitive medical equipment would receive consistent voltage and protection.

System Design and Customization
Based on the energy audit, we designed a 15KVA hybrid solar system, integrating high-efficiency solar panels, deep-cycle battery banks for storage, and smart inverters for real-time management.
The system was optimized to support both daytime solar consumption and nighttime backup power.

Installation and Commissioning
Our technical team executed the full installation, from panel mounting to inverter integration and battery configuration, within the agreed timeframe.
We ensured proper wiring, surge protection, and system testing before handing over to the client.
Comprehensive training was also provided for the laboratory staff on system usage and maintenance.
